AT COLORADO HONORS CU Athlete of the Week (Week 2) 2025 (So.) Played in five games during the 2025 season, starting in one game. Made his first start since his freshman season on the road against Houston in week three. Staub went into week two against Delaware without knowing he would get a chance to play his first extended time since starting the 2023 season finale at Utah. Then on Friday Coach Prime alerted him to the opportunity ahead of him. Staub went 7-of-10 for 157 yards and two passing touchdowns. It is believed that he is the first third-string CU quarterback with two passing touchdowns in the same game. Finished the season competing 30-of-55 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions. Added 19 rushes for 30 yards and one touchdown. CU Athlete of the Week (Week 2) 2024 (RS. - Fr.) Played in four games during the 2024 season. Saw the field for 20 snaps as the backup quarterback to Shedeur Sanders. Went 0-for-4 passing on the season. 2023 (Fr.) Played in three games in 2023, starting in one of them. Debuted against Nebraska in the home opener, completing first career pass for three yards. First career start came against Utah in the last game of the season. Completed 17 of 24 passes (70.8%) for 195 yards and first career touchdown to Travis Hunter. AT WEST RANCH Played at West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, Calif. under coach Chris Varner. Played three seasons on varsity, starting as a junior and senior. As an upperclassman, he was 355-of-600 (.592) passing for 5,422 yards and 58 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions, leading West Ranch to a 19-4 record as a starter. He holds virtually every single season and career QB school record. He also ran the ball 66 times for 687 yards and 10 touchdowns with one 100-yard game. Finished his career with five 300-yard passing games (one 400) and four games with five-plus touchdown passes (one with six). Senior season he was 2000-of-321 passing for 3,008 yards and 37 touchdowns to just five interceptions, adding 35 rushes for 363 yards and four touchdowns, leading West Ranch to an 11-1 record. His final season he led West Ranch to its first Foothill League Championship and an undefeated 10-0 record. Following the season he was named Foothill League Most Valuable Player; 1st Team All-CIF Southern Section; Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year; California Cal-Hi Sport All-State. His best rushing game was against Saugus, when he had two rushes for 100 yards and a 74-yard touchdown, and also connected on 25-of-40 passes for 380 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-6 win, giving him 480 yards of total offense. Against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, he hit on 26-of-37 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns and added two rushing scores with four carries for 75 yards. Also threw five touchdowns in the first two games of the season, hitting on 15-of-21 for 325 yards and five scores in a 61-41 win over St. Francis, and then in a 49-0 win over Buena, he was 13-of-21 for 251 yards and five touchdowns. Junior season he was 155-of-279 passing for 2,414 yard and 21 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, adding 31 rushes for 324 yards and six scores. After his junior season he was named Foothill League Offensive Player of the Year; 1st Team All-CIF Southern Section; Los Angeles Daily News All-Area 1st Team; California Cal-Hi Sports All-State. He set his career highs for yards and touchdowns in a 62-38 win over Pacifica when he was 20-of-30 for 455 yards and six touchdowns and added two rushes for 75 yards and another score, giving him 530 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. Also ran track & field at West Ranch. PERSONAL Ryan comes from a family of athletes. His brother Jared played wide receiver at the University of California Berkeley, his father Craig was an All-Pac 10 pole vaulter at the University of California Berkley, and his grandfather Jerry was a catcher on a national championship baseball team at USC.
