Rex Guthrie

He recorded 63 tackles and added 2.0 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. Guthrie became only the third Husker freshmen to record 60 tackles in a season since freshmen regained eligibility in 1972, and his 63 tackles were the second-most by a Husker freshman since 1972. Guthrie was a key member of a Husker secondary that ranked third nationally in pass defense. Guthrie made his Husker debut against Cincinnati and had three tackles. He had three more tackles against Akron with his first career TFL and first career pass breakup. Guthrie led Nebraska with six tackles against Houston Christian with a half tackle for loss. His play helped the Husker secondary limit each of the first three opponents to fewer than 100 passing yards, a first for the program since 1990. Guthrie made his first career start against Michigan State and recorded five tackles. He also started at Maryland and had four solo tackles. Guthrie made his third consecutive start at Minnesota and recorded five tackles. He had a career-high eight tackles against Northwestern. Guthrie matched that total with eight more tackles against No. 23 USC, and he helped the Huskers limit USC to fewer than 150 passing yards for the first time in 83 games. Guthrie had six tackles in Nebraska's win at UCLA. At Penn State, Guthrie totaled four tackles, including a half tackle for loss. Guthrie totaled three solo tackles against Iowa. He recorded three tackles in the Las Vegas Bowl against No. 15 Utah. 2024 (Redshirt) Guthrie redshirted and did not play in a game in 2024. Before Nebraska (Heritage HS) Guthrie was one of the top prospects in Colorado. He starred for Heritage High School in Littleton, playing for Coach Tyler Knoblock. Guthrie was selected a team captain for the 2023 season but had his senior campaign cut short due to injury. He made 15 tackles in two games and earned academic all-state recognition as Heritage posted a 7-5 record and made the Class 4A quarterfinals. As a junior, Guthrie helped Heritage to a state quarterfinal appearance. He made 115 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and added three interceptions. On special teams, he averaged 28.0 yards per kickoff return. Guthrie led his conference in tackles and was the league’s special teams player of the year while earning All-Colorado honors. He was also a first-team Academic All-State honoree. Guthrie was a second-team all-conference selection as a sophomore when he had 64 tackles and two interceptions and handled kickoff return duties. Guthrie was a consensus top 10 player in the state of Colorado, including being tabbed as the No. 4 in the state by 247 Sports. Personal Rex is the son of Lee and Michelle Guthrie. Rex is a finance major.
